Autumn in August?
I know, I know, I know. In my last post I said that we were going to wait until the fall to pick back up on the field trial trail...but I just couldn't wait to get back at it! Our female Jewel was finally in good enough shape to run after whelping her puppies in June, weaning them, and drying up. We had taken her on one run with Shortie since she had dried up and she acted like nothing had changed and she hadn't been run up for almost 4 months.
We decided to head right down the road to the Shelby County Beagle Club in Waddy, KY. Having been to this club before we were familiar with the folks running the events and many people who participated. We entered both dogs in the hunt and I also entered Shortie in the bench show which, surprisingly, was conducted before any casts were run. Shortie was awarded best male and accrued 20 more points towards his bench championship!
After the bench show we took the hounds out to the running grounds where Jewel came in second in her cast and walked away with a 3rd place win overall and Shortie came away with a 6th place win. Jewel accrued 25 points towards her rabbit championship (25 total) and Shortie accrued 10 points towards his rabbit championship (25 total). Our beagling buddy Paul also entered his male dog who placed 4th overall. Even though Shortie didn't do as well as we hoped we were still happy that he ended up with points towards his championships. We also thought Jewel did great for her first Little Pack trial!
