Third Time's (Hopefully) the Charm

So after more than a month, a new beagle addition, and a nice vacation to Florida we returned to the Little Pack trial circuit. We ended up taking another trip to the Shelby County Beagle Club in Waddy, KY - fitting since it is our home club. Once again we entered our two hounds, Shortie and Jewel, and our friend Paul joined us with his male hound Thunder. I tried to enter Shortie into the bench show but there weren't enough male dogs entered to judge.

So off we go to the running grounds; Jewel and Paul's male dog were drawn into the same cast and Shortie was on his own in another. Jewel's cast had some good running and all in all she placed 2nd in her cast - again - behind Thunder! Shortie placed 4th in his cast due to some rough conditions, the winner of the cast only won with 10 points. Shortie ended up placing 7th overall and Jewel came away with another 3rd place win. Thunder went on to the final opens cast and ended up the winner of the entire opens class! He also tied for Hound of the Year at the Shelby County Beagle Club in just 2 trials!

Shortie accrued 10 points toward his rabbit championship for a total of 35 points. Jewel accrued 25 points toward her rabbit championship for a total of 50 points. Since she has also been awarded all 50 points from the same club, she can no longer get points from this club that will count towards her championship; in other words, she can only accrue points toward her championship from clubs other than Shelby County Beagle Club. Once again, Shortie didn't end up placing as high as we would like but what we've come to realize is that it can really take the right roll of the dice to make champions. The running grounds, scenting conditions, judges, and other cast members all play parts in how your hound will be perceived and whether or not it might place in the trial. Some days you just don't get the right roll! Jewel did well and Shortie was awarded points too so I guess we can't be too upset about the outcome.

On a side note, as I mentioned above, we welcomed a new beagle addition at the beginning of August. We got a new puppy! Durbin's Blue Chipper is a nice little bluetick male with a sweet personality. He goes back to NLPC IFC Riley's Rolling Trails, IFC Beavercreek Manifest Destiny, and FC Turbo Powered by Prop on his Dam side and Turbo and IFC Maravic's Blue Ninja on his Sire side. If you'd like more information about him please visit our "Hounds" tab and find him under "Males"!
